Have you heard of....MYO Clothing?

Hi all,

So I’ve just been in touch with the owner and founder of a pretty dope, up and coming new brand, called MYO Clothing. He allowed me passage into his mental laboratory to bring you the 4-1-1 on just who he is and what his brand is all about. (Not to mention he is a fellow Chicago Bulls fan, oh yeah, we talked basketball for a bit.) Therefore without further delay, I bring you this edition of “Have you heard of…” featuring Ft. Worth based and Texas grown, MYO Clothing.

And away we go...

First off, introduce yourself and tell me about your brand.

Hey, My name is Robert Gonzalez, I am the owner and founder of MYO Clothing (Make Your Own Clothing) basically the brand was created to appeal to diverse groups of people whether you skate, draw, rap, or just go to school while looking cool at the same time.

Your brand is new and just getting started, what made you decide to create a brand of t-shirts?

I was looking to just make a couple shirts for myself so I created a rough design and showed a friend of mine, Axel Gaona (designer) and we sat in front of the computer for about an hour just improving the design and finally we had something we felt proud of, we joked about starting a brand and about a week later we ordered a significant number of shirts as a trial run. The shirts went fast and that's when we decided to get serious with designing t-shirts.

MYO stands for "Make Your Own," was it a light bulb moment or a personal philosophy that inspired your brand name? Describe the moment or philosophy.

The name MYO was inspired by the desire to stand out, not get lost in the crowd. Me and my designer were looking at some shirt sketches we worked on and we realized they looked so different from anything we've seen before and the name came natural, "make your own."

What has been the most challenging part of creating and selling t-shirts?

The most challenging part of designing and selling t-shirts is coming up with a design that is unique yet appealing to a lot of different groups.

What is the ultimate goal you have for your brand?

The ultimate goal for my brand is to show people that it's okay to be different; it's okay to be your own person, it’s okay to “make your own.”

What is the one thing or piece of advice you wish someone had given you when starting your own brand of t-shirts? Do you have a piece of advice for someone who is thinking about starting their own brand?

A piece of advice I wish someone would have given me would be to don't try to force creativity, let it come natural. A piece of advice I would give to someone thinking about starting their own t-shirt brand would be to develop a team and stay motivated

What do you think will separate your brand from others?

My brand is very unique and targeted to all types of groups, not limited to one group.

You have some exciting news, tell me about it

I have a Valentine's shirt that will be available very soon the official name of the shirt is "MYO love" (Make Your Own Love) it is a very highly anticipated shirt. I have a significant number of pre-orders already. They will be available on my online store at http://myoclothing.bigcartel.com/.

What are some of your favorite Indie brands?

Some of my favorite indie brands include Obey, Sleepy Dan, Fur Face Boy, Shogun, and Loyal King just to name a few.

If you could have drinks with 3 people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

If I could have drinks with 3 people, my choice would be Denzel Washington, Al Pacino, and Robert De Niro. Simply because I've always been into their movies, and the characters they play are so unique and original.

If you could have one "do over" what would it be and why?

If I could have one do over it would be to open my eyes creatively at a younger age.

What inspires you?

I'm originally a hip-hop artist so music is my main inspiration, along with my city, and the people that support me and that show me love every day. I love my supporters!
